JCC Womens College Summer League Playoff Results For Monday 8-11-14

Here are the results of the two semifinal games and the championship game on the closing night of the JCC Womens College Summer Leauge:

6:00 P.M. Semifinal Game

SDSM&T - 51
SMSU - 42

6:55 P.M. Semifinal Game

St. Kate's Yellow - 59
St. Kate's Purple - 45

7:50 P.M. Championship Game

SDSM&T - 64
St. Kate's Yellow - 56

In the first semifinal game, the SDSM&T group raced out to an 18-3 lead at the 11:28 mark of the first half and could seemingly do no wrong in the first half; converting on several fast-break opportunities and knocking down shots from the perimeter as well that allowed them to take a 29-15 lead at the half.  The SMSU group struggled all game long to find their rhythm and finally were able to make a late charge but were too deep in a hole to have any hope of getting dangerously close again as the SDSM&T team advanced to the championship game with a 51-42 victory.  The second semifinal pitted the two St. Kate's squads - the Purple and Yellow teams - against each other.  This was a much closer contest that was back and forth for the first half with the Yellow team clinging to a 31-30 halftime lead.  Things would stay tight throughout most of the second half but in the home stretch, the St. Kate's Purple team suddenly went cold and the St. Kate's Yellow squad was able to convert some key steals into points that allowed them to claim a 64-56 victory and ink their spot in the championship game.

The SDSM&T team, though they started off a bit slow, was gradually able to pick up where they left off in their previous contest.  This squad; made up of players who are, for the most part, playing for other schools, was very athletic and sizable to boot and they were able to dominate on the glass that allowed them to take a cozy 35-21 lead at the half.  They would maintain this margin for most of the second half but the St. Kate's Yellow team was able to make something of a late charge to get things a little closer - but not nearly close enough to where they could catch their opponent as the SDSM&T squad claimed the championship with a 64-56 victory.

JCC Womens College Summer League Playoff Results For Monday 8-4-14

Here are the results of the playoff games that were on tap tonight at the JCC Womens College Summer League:

6:00 P.M. Game

SMSU - 66
Augsburg #1 - 45

6:55 P.M. Game

St. Kate's Yellow - 51
Anoka-Ramsey - 38

7:50 P.M. Game

St. Kate's Purple - 73
Augsburg #2 - 40

In the 6:00 P.M. matchup, the Augsburg #1 team stayed within the 4-6 point range of the bigger SMSU squad; trailing only 18-14 at one point early on.  But just before the midway point of the first half, SMSU went on a tear and quickly opened up a double-digit lead that allowed them to enjoy a 36-23 lead at the halftime break.  Despite a heroic effort from Augsburg senior-to-be Abbey Luger who made several acrobatic drives for baskets and came up with numerous steals, the SMSU team cruised to a 66-45 win and advance to next weeks semifinals.  In the 6:55 P.M. slot, the St. Kate's Yellow team was simply too hard to handle for Anoka-Ramsey as seniors-to-be Jenna Mistler and Sarah Manning led the way.  The St. Kate's Yellow team was able to get the same halftime lead on Anoka-Ramsey at the halftime break as the SMSU squad got on the Augsburg #1 team - 36-23 - and they never let up enroute to a 51-38 victory to advance.  In the nightcap, the St. Kate's Purple team made easy work of the Augsburg #2 squad; bolting to a 40-20 halftime advantage.  Great shooting from behind the arc by junior-to-be Shauna Horsch, senior-to-be Mary Neumann and her younger sister and incoming freshman Emily Neumann paved the way to a 73-40 romp.

The SDSM&T squad; which was the #1 seed, received a bye this week and they'll take on the SMSU squad next Monday night in the 6:00 P.M. slot which should be a good one.  In the 6:55 slot, the two St. Kate's teams will duke it out in the other semifinal match-up which should be a fun one to watch for sure.  The winners then will face off in the championship game at 7:50.
