JCC Womens College Summer League Playoff Results For Monday 8-11-14

Here are the results of the two semifinal games and the championship game on the closing night of the JCC Womens College Summer Leauge:

6:00 P.M. Semifinal Game

SDSM&T - 51
SMSU - 42

6:55 P.M. Semifinal Game

St. Kate's Yellow - 59
St. Kate's Purple - 45

7:50 P.M. Championship Game

SDSM&T - 64
St. Kate's Yellow - 56

In the first semifinal game, the SDSM&T group raced out to an 18-3 lead at the 11:28 mark of the first half and could seemingly do no wrong in the first half; converting on several fast-break opportunities and knocking down shots from the perimeter as well that allowed them to take a 29-15 lead at the half.  The SMSU group struggled all game long to find their rhythm and finally were able to make a late charge but were too deep in a hole to have any hope of getting dangerously close again as the SDSM&T team advanced to the championship game with a 51-42 victory.  The second semifinal pitted the two St. Kate's squads - the Purple and Yellow teams - against each other.  This was a much closer contest that was back and forth for the first half with the Yellow team clinging to a 31-30 halftime lead.  Things would stay tight throughout most of the second half but in the home stretch, the St. Kate's Purple team suddenly went cold and the St. Kate's Yellow squad was able to convert some key steals into points that allowed them to claim a 64-56 victory and ink their spot in the championship game.

The SDSM&T team, though they started off a bit slow, was gradually able to pick up where they left off in their previous contest.  This squad; made up of players who are, for the most part, playing for other schools, was very athletic and sizable to boot and they were able to dominate on the glass that allowed them to take a cozy 35-21 lead at the half.  They would maintain this margin for most of the second half but the St. Kate's Yellow team was able to make something of a late charge to get things a little closer - but not nearly close enough to where they could catch their opponent as the SDSM&T squad claimed the championship with a 64-56 victory.
