Second Regional Rankings Announced 2-14-18
The NCAA came out with its second regional rankings for the season earlier today and here's how the all-important West Region looks at the moment. Obviously, things did not shake out the way I had expected them to and I have a few things to say about that:
1. Wartburg 23-0 14-0
2. UST 21-2 16-0
3. CSB 21-2 15-1
4. George Fox 20-3 13-1
5. Whitman 21-2 13-1
6. Bethel 16-7 11-5
7. GAC 19-4 13-3
8. Chapman 20-3 14-0
I've no problem at all with the first three spots; actually not even a problem with George Fox being in the fourth spot by virtue of its 80-68 home win over arch-rival Whitman this last weekend and the committee has George Fox where they should be I think. But what I absolutely DO NOT get is the fact that GAC stays cemented in seventh place in these rankings AFTER they dough-popped Bethel this last weekend at home in Lund Arena. Bethel merely slips one spot after getting beat yet GAC is not rewarded for its win as George Fox was. Can anyone explain this? I cannot. Obviously, things can change greatly given tonight's huge clash between GAC and CSB at Claire Lynch tonight but I simply do not understand how GAC, given its better overall AND conference record remains behind Bethel even after they beat Bethel. That just does not make sense to me.
Feel free to fire away with thoughts.
